video production advert evaluation

For the video production advert me and my group produced a short 15-30 second freaky video advert for my nutritional, energy bar called "Avidity", we had a maximum of 3 different locations that we could use while filming. After taking the cameras out with us and filming them on tripods etc. We had to then go and edit them in a software called Adobe Premiere Pro and present the film to the class and for the class to watch. We researched a lot of things like what were in nutrition bars, the dimensions for bars and the name for the product and how we were going to make our advert freaky (watching freaky adverts helped a lot). We researched things like where we could film and what certain shots would be like, how we would then do those shots and make sure it was the right shot and how to make it freaky and this all helped us a lot because when we actually got to the filming we could easily get right to the filming part of it which is where we came across a problem as we didn't do enough research into if we could film in the car park or not and just assumed it was public property and anyone could film there which was wrong and we came up with a plan B which ended up being the college stairs.

Here is a screenshot of the adobe premiere pro editing software where you can edit your videos to change colour, speed up, slow down and all different kinds of really cool, new features.

I learnt many skills in doing the video production advert, many which include learning how to edit, using tools on the camera itself which contains all sorts of tools and effects that I have learnt about in lesson and that I used while I’m filming. We learnt how to turn the camera on first as some people don't know about it, I know it sounds simple but it really stumbled me at first as to how to actually turn it on, we also learnt about setting the white balance so that the picture is actually taking in the right kind of colour contrasts in and doesn't look weird or all white. We also learned about how there's a little box you get to take photos and videos and you can use that to get the placement right, it’s kind of like a rectangle on the screen to tell you where to place the people so you can get the right composition for your video. I feel really good about our final piece because we put a lot of work into it and now it’s all complete it looks like a really good and professional advert but to be honest if I could do it again I would probably do a whole lot more research into if the place we want to be filming in is actually available for filming as we started filming quite a few shots in the car park stairs but got swiftly kicked out  which gave us a huge set back as we had to think of a totally different place to do our filming and had to re-do the storyboard.

print advert evaluation

In this blog ill be talking about what i produced for my advert overall, the whole thing that i produced so the end product and talking about my print advert. Me and my group produced a nutritional energy bar that is called "avidity". We had quite a few ideas, from deodorant to drinks but a bar seemed best as not many other people had done a bar and he chose the name avidity because we looked up other words for energy and came across a word called "zeal" but the rest of my group didn't like it so we googled other names for zeal and Avidity came up which means energy or enthusiasm and me and the rest of my group all agreed on that name ans so that's what it is called. A nutritional, energy bar called Avidity. We then had to do a print and video version and for the print version we had to do the dimensions for the bar which took a while to do but i managed to crack it and then get on with designing the fonts and what the bar would look like and come across as. I also had to create a magazine advert for the bar where i had the slogan "energy for those desperate days" below the avidity bar and also had a list of all the things it contains inside the bar and that it was only £1. For the video and film part however we had to create a short film about 15-30 seconds long promoting our product (basically an advert) but could only use a maximum of 3 different locations during filming, after taking the cameras out with us and filming them on tripods etc we had to then go and edit them in a software called Adobe Premiere Pro and present the film to the class and for the class to watch. We researched a lot of things like what were in nutrition bars, the dimensions for bars, the name for the product and how we were going to make our advert freaky (watching freaky adverts helped). We learned many skills in doing the print advert like how to create it all in Photoshop and how to get adverts from a website called "da font" and I also learnt how to create shapes like stars in Adobe Illustrator then how to copy it into Photoshop. I then passed that information onto another student who wanted to know how to do a different shape and import it into Photoshop. It was all very helpful to me in making the advert. I am overall very happy with the final piece for the print advert as me and my group had put a lot of work into it and came across some struggles along the way like the bar dimensions and agreeing on a colour for the bar but we overcame them and in the end it looks like a nice and really professional final product. Next time if i had to do it again though i definitely wouldn't do a bar because that totally wrecked my head but i felt a sense of accomplishment afterwards. Here you can see my print magazine for "Avidity".

Notes on filming

My filming went very well but had an unexpected blip in it so we had to change course. In the beginning we originally wanted to film it in the car park because it looked creepy and cool as hell and we filmed a couple of shots but got kicked out by some man saying it wasn't just public property that you can film on and we needed permission so we left and had to think of a totally different place to film. We ended up filming on the college stairs as you go down to the refectory, the lobby, the front entrance and the elevator. Filming all together went well, i found it quite hard to act and we shot around 3 shoots per location.

proposal for video advert

What we are intending to do for our video advert (avidity bar) is basically there's going to be a man with an avidity bar going to work and minding his own business like always, he sees a zombie and the zombie the zombie starts chasing after him but he realises he has his energizing avidity bar with him and takes a bite out of it and gains super energy to get away from the zombie. The man with the avidity bar is me, the zombie is Jake and the camera person is Paige. What we'll be doing is using the college stairs, elevator, lobby and the steps out on the front of the building. We was originally going to use the car park and we filmed a few bits in there but a man came and said that we can't use it and that we need to have permission so that's why we chose the locations we did. After filming it all the 3 of us will edit it all and compose it down to 30 seconds where we will then have to present it to the class and let them watch it.

ill be using all sorts of tools for my video advert. ill be using tools on the camera itself which contains all sorts of tools and effects that i have learnt about in lesson and that i will have to use while im filming. We learnt how to turn the camera on and i know it seems obvious but at first i genuinely didn't know how to turn it on, we learnt about setting the white balance so that the picture is actually on the right kind of brightness level and is taking in the right kind of colour contrasts in and doesn't look stupid. We also learned about something in photography which we was taught in video and film lesson. There's a little box you get to take photos and video and you can use that to get the placement right.

There are also lots of other effects in other software's that you can use to change the contrasts while editing the film like you can change the colour contrast when someone is biting into a chocolate bar that gives them energy to show that, that person is now super energised which is what i think im going to do for mine. You can also cut down, speed up and add sound to the clips that were going to film.

locations sheet and plan B location - video and film

This is the first place we went too but we ended up getting kicked out of it because we needed permission to film in this car park and also if any cars end up having scratches on them as its a car park so it wasn't the best idea to film in there. We then had to come up with a plan B and here is our plan B

The first picture here you see is the stairs going down to the refectory in which Jake chases me up. The second picture is also of the stairs which Jake will chase me up.

Jake will be hiding underneath the stairs waiting for me to try and walk upstairs, hell then chase me up the stairs and ill get away from him super fast because of avidity.

this picture here is the elevator which ill walk out of and head towards the stairs.

This is the ground floor door which i run out of while Jake is chasing me and below is the next door, the lobby and the 2 other entrance doors that Jake chases me through. Although we might not use all of these shots because we need to narrow it down to about 30 seconds.

Brainstorm - video and film

In this blog you can see a picture of our brainstorm ideas for the advert that we were planning. We have camera shots, we have how long the advert needs to be, what we can and cant have in the advert (swearing etc) and what kind of stuff were going to do in the advert and what products were looking at making.

Freak or Unique magazine advert with development sketches

In this blog I'm going to show you how our product came along, as you can see this here, this is our product of what it will look like after all the Photoshop effects have been added to it.
Here you can see the dimensions of the avidity bar. This took a while to figure out and was probably the hardest thing I've had to do out of the whole process yet, it was very frustrating but a good feeling when i got it done.
This is the finished magazine product for avidity bar, its very detailed and has a big "out there" headline. Also it has the bar clearly see able in the top middle of the page and has all the nutrition properties it offers you below in a big star.

You can see here below and the the left how the actual dimensions of the bar will look after everything is done so you can image that all folded up and taped together with chocolate inside.

Here below you can see the sketch that we did for the bar and i think we did a pretty good job on creating it in Photoshop and making it look professional and making it actually look like the sketch.

library

We had a show around the library and was told what it does and basically we had to pick a book that we found interesting and i found this book really interesting. Its called "op to pop furniture of the 1960's" and its to do with furniture of the 1960's and shows you what furniture is like, if you'd like to see some furniture you can look below here at the pictures. We also learned that the libraries right side computers have got mostly Photoshop on most of them but the left side has non because the right side is the creative side.

slogan examples

In this lesson we learnt about slogans and we were given this sheet and had to guess what company the slogans were for but then we had to describe how they sold their products. For example NIKE and their just do it slogan are famous and its like they're saying just buy it or just do it why not with their "just do it" slogan.

seamless background

In this lesson we were taught how to set up a seamless background and as you can see there is an object on the table but it needed a white background so we taped up a white background for the object, then got tape to hold the white background into place, plugged the red light in and adjusted the barn doors so that the light was directed in the way it was supposed to be and also set the tripod up to the right height with the camera tightly fastened so it doesn't fall off and finally then took the picture.

Photography proposal

For the assignment set, i want to create a freaky or unique (hopefully both) magazine advertisement using the photography cameras i will take the these following lessons.

For props i don't need any as the four of them chosen only needs someone to pose with a camera which i can borrow from photography. Shooting people in front of the camera wont be a problem as i have already asked them and got approval from them that they are okay to be in front of the camera and are okay to have their photo taken.

For the photographs i need to take id need some equipment like the cameras and red heads. Using humans as my subjects wont be hard at all as I'm going to cut around them anyway and put a black picture as the background. The locations that I'm going to use are mainly in the classroom apart from i need to use the spiral staircase that is right next to it.

The considerations that i will have to think of while shooting my images are that I'm using a room with lots of windows and the sun normally comes blasting in so I'm thinking that could mess my photo up. I could put something in front of the windows but I highly doubt id be able to cover all of them and then some of the persons face would be covered by shadows. I think I'm going to have to use the red lights to get rid of the light a bit and direct the light where i want it then try and work wonders in the Photoshop stage of the editing process.

Once I'm at the Photoshop editing process i'll use tools that are called "curves" and "levels" to adjust the colour contrast of the imagery. The main tool that i will be using is a tool called the "pen" tool in which you can use to cut things out of and place them. I will also be using the "blur" tool and the "burn" tool. I hope that this will help my images to look more professional and a whole lot better (and more freaky). I feel like using all these images and effects will make them look a whole lot cooler and also help me to develop my skills.

One of the only obstacles that i feel like i will encounter is editing the pictures using all of those tool that i have described as i think that sometimes its a bit if a head wreck but all together it should hopefully go okay.

Photography evaluation

Our assignment was to recreate 4 freaky images for our advert. Our first task was to do some research online and find 10 freaky images that we liked and narrow it down to just 4 to then recreate them, edit them in Photoshop to make them look even creepier and put those 4 images together as a mashup/montage.  Here are the 4 images that inspired me.

The first image of mine is of my friend holding a camera with a quite creepy, menacing smile and i also photo-shopped a scar above and below his eye for added creepiness impact on the picture. The second image of mine that you see is freaky or unusual because it has a man covering one of his eyes and his mouth but instead of it being behind his hands they're in front of them which is quite creepy and weird. The third image (below) is of a womans eye but this isn't any normal eye, the pupil and the colouring around it has been cut out and replaced with a picture of a spiraling staircase. Then the 4th picture is of hands. But freakishly enough they aren't actually hands they're just the fingers because the hands and in between have been cut out.

what were your ideas? refer to your proposal - outline what is was you intended to do.

My ideas as you can see in my proposal are that i would be creating a magazine advert that would be freaky and unique using skills that i have acquired through lessons using Photoshop and using the college cameras, my idea was to recreate 4 freaky and/or unique pictures for my advert, the only props needed was a camera for someone to pose with on one of my pictures which was fine and i intended overall to just make 4 really freaky, well edited good pictures for my advert and personally i think i achieved that.

For the actual photography i had to take into account many things like for the eye picture i had to turn the dial on the camera to the flower image so i could take a better, not blurry picture then i had to find a location for the stairs which would of been hard if the college didn't have a cool spiral staircase next to us. For the hands picture i was going to buy fake fingers but couldn't find any which was a problem so i had to take a picture of someones hands and then edit it all in Photoshop. The creepy man with the scar was probably my favorite as i too a really cool picture of my friend and i couldn't quite figure out how to do the scar so i used the smudge effect on Photoshop instead, the location was easy as i cut round the background anyway but i had to get red lights to shine on his face to make his face bright. The man with the Photo-shopped lips and eyes was okay to find a location and i didn't need any props for it nor did i need any equipment apart from red lights and a camera ans finding the model was easy as i just asked the person next to me.

The final shots were edited decently. For the picture with the man and the scar holding the camera i got my friend Simeon to stand by a red board and pose in that certain way with a kind of creep-ish smile then i put it in Photoshop and used effects to impact it in the way i wanted like i used the pen tool to cut around him and added a black picture as the background and changed the colour to grey, however i put the yellow bar up a little more than the others as i wanted his skin to be quite light but didn't want his arms as light so i used the burn tool to darken his arms and keep his face slightly lighter. I also used lots of other effects like playing around with the curves and deepening and and lightening certain parts and adding shadows to certain parts etc. I couldn't figure out how to do a scar so I used the smudge tool and i think it came off quite decent.

For the man covering his eye and hand with the lips and eyes showing i took 2 photos: one of him standing there by himself and the other him with his hands how you see in the picture here to your left. I literally just used the clone stamp tool to create his eyes and mouth and the burn tool around those parts. I then cut around him using the pen tool and put a black image as the background and selected certain lighting to make his face stand more out.

For the eyeball, staircase picture i took a picture of a girls eye but couldn't quite get it right as it was blurry so the camera had to be set the mode with the flower on it and it took a very good extreme close close up of the eye but then i had to go to the top of the spiral staircase and take a photo of it going all the way down where i then put both the images into Photoshop, cut the eye out, put the stairs layer behind the girl layer and size it to fit nicely behind the eye where i then set both of them to grey-scale and played around with the curves tool for more effect.

Finally the fingers picture. It's quite simple as i just took a photo of someones hands and used the pen tool and the rubber tool to get rid of all the unnecessary things i didn't need and put a black background behind it.

Here's all the 4 final pictures for you to see:

Honestly if i had to do it differently next time i would do it so much different. The first picture you see i would of kept everything the same that i did as i like that picture but i don't like the 2nd one as i think it looks a bit rubbish so id of changed that one with a different kind of one. The third picture i like as i think its quite cool but i don't like the last picture with the fingers because i feel like it looks rushed and cheaply made even though it wasn't, id of probably ordered some fake prop fingers online and done it that way instead.

In my opinion i think that the four pictures i created does meet the assignment briefs and my original proposal.

photography. 10 images i narrowed down to about 4

In this blog im going to be showing you my 10 images i picked and the 4 im going to narrow it down to.
Here you can see this first image with a girl sitting down with fairy lights on her head. I didn't end up doing this image though as i couldn't find fairy lights anywhere. the second image that we come to is one of the images that i recreated because i thought it looked really cool and wouldn't take hours on hours to recreate. The third image you see i didn't really take a second look at after some thought because i have no idea as to where id find a window like that. The 4th  image is the image with the creepy man holding the camera and i actually recreated this because i thought it looked freaky as hell. The 5th image i considered doing but i didn't because other images looked way better like the 7th image on the screen which i recreated because it looks awesome and i thought it wouldn't be too bad to recreate. The 6th image looks really cool and i kind of wish i did it because it looks so good but sadly i couldn't find a narrow road that looks like that anywhere. The 8th picture was similar to one i had already picked and didn't look as good which is why i didn't pick that one. The 9th picture is also one which i recreated because i thought it looked cool and i believed in myself that i could recreate it and i did and finally the 10th and final image you see looks super cool but i already had my 4 that i wanted to recreate and i thought it was way out of my skill range to try and recreate that. Maybe later on in the year i will.

4 freaky images montage

This is my 4 freaky images montage with text explaining what it is and what the images were for.

photography

Q1. What is ISO and what does it effect? ISO changes light sensitivity. The lower the ISO number, the less sensitive it is to the light, while a higher ISO number increases the sensitivity of your camera. The higher the light the lower the ISO but that changes the pixels in the photo.

Q2. When would we use the ‘P’ control setting on the camera mode dial.  P means program, you would use P when you want to control the ISO or white balance. You would use it when you want a bit more flexibility while not worrying what the shutter speed or anything is, its good for just focusing on composition or an important photo so you don't have to worry about other settings.

Q3. Name two important consideration when attaching the tripod baseplate to the bottom of camera?
  1. Make sure its tight.
  2. Make sure its in the right way (there's an arrow).

Q4. Name three important considerations when using a red-head lighting kit.
  • Don't touch the barn doors because they get super hot.
  • Make sure you turn it off and leave it to cool for 15 minutes.
  • Make sure you don't trip on the wire.

Q5. When focusing the camera, what do we place on the object/subject to ensure it is the center of focus? The little green square (or cross hairs as i like to call them to make it sound cool).

Q6. Name two techniques we can use to adjust the brightness and contrast of a photograph? to adjust it you can use the curves tool in photoshop but on a camera you can use the "shutter speed", "aperture" and the "ISO"

Avidity bar evaluation - games and graphics

In this lesson we had to produce the paper version of our advert for a magazine. My advert is a nutrition bar called AVIDITY (I got the name from the dictionary, it means enthusiasm or energy) and when you eat the bar it gives you super energy and is packed with protein and lots of nutrition. Here I basically just drew a plan of what I was going to do, this is the final plan as I had lots of other plans but this was the final of what I was going to do. I came up with some text at the top that reads "Put yourself first! Fitness" and then the avidity logo bar underneath with the slogan that is "Energy for those desperate days".
Then I had lots of facts underneath like the protein inside it and the vitamin A and C etc.

I researched about the dimensions of nutrition bars but it didn't help so I had to create my own dimensions for it which was very hard and that's the reason in which if I did this again I wouldn't do a bar I would do a drink or a spray or something like that. I also researched about nutrition bars and what they had in them which really helped me and my group create our product. I learnt a lot of skills from creating this advert including how to use Photoshop with lots of different cool tools to use. I learnt how to film and how to take good photos and how to set the white balance. I also learnt how to create shapes like stars in Adobe Illustrator then how to copy it into Photoshop. I then passed that information onto another student who wanted to know how to do a different shape and import it into Photoshop. It was all very helpful to me in making the advert. I feel very happy with our final piece as I think it looks very professional.

Media

In this lesson we had to finish off anything we haven't already done and get ready for tomorrow where we're going to start filming everything so basically we were finishing off my story board and then once that was done i basically went and did the rest of my freaky images so tomorrow i can just go into Marissa's lesson, pick the camera up and start filming.

storyboard. video and film

Here is a few screenshots of what i did in word and how i explained what i did in the storyboard and what were gonna do in the film etc.

4 freaky images. Photography

In photography we were given the task of taking 4 freakish pictures based on a photo and had to use equipment such as the cameras provided, red heads and had to set the white balance in the settings etc.

in this photo i got my friend Simeon to stand by a red board and pose in that certain way with a kind of creep-ish smile then i put it in Photoshop and used effects to impact it in certain way like i used the pen tool to cut around him and added a black picture as the background and changed the colour to grey, however i put the yellow bar up a little more than the others as i wanted his skin to be quite light but didn't want his arms as light so i used the burn tool to darken his arms and keep his face slightly lighter. I also used lots of other effects like playing around with the curves and deepening and and lightening certain parts and adding shadows to certain parts etc. I couldn't figure out how to do a scar so I used the smudge tool and i think it came off quite decent.
In this picture i took 2 photos: one of him standing there by himself and the other him with his hands how you see in the picture here to your left. I literally just used the clone stamp tool to create his eyes and mouth and the burn tool around those parts. I then cut around him using the pen tool and put a black image as the background and selected certain lighting to make his face stand more out.
For the 3rd  picture you see here i took a picture of a girls eye but couldn't quite get it right as it was blurry so the camera had to be set the mode with the flower on it and it took a very good extreme close close up of the eye but then i had to go to the top of the spiral staircase and take a photo of it going all the way down where i then put both the images into Photoshop, cut the eye out, put the stairs layer behind the girl layer and size it to fit nicely behind the eye where i then set both of them to grey-scale and played around with the curves tool for more effect.
The 4th and final picture you see is quite simple as i just took a photo of someones hands and used the pen tool and the rubber tool to get rid of all the unnecessary things i didn't need and put a black background behind it.

Here I've uploaded all the example pictures for you to compare and on some of them i put my own little twist. Enjoy!
